NASCAR Xfinity Series: Kevin Harvick has choice words for Ross Chastain
By Asher Fair
NASCAR Cup Series regular Kevin Harvick ripped Ross Chastain after the incident between the two drivers at Darlington Raceway in the Xfinity Series race.
On lap 111 of 147 during Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race, the Sport Clips Haircuts VFW 200, Chip Ganassi Racing’s Ross Chastain and Stewart-Haas Racing’s Kevin Harvick were in an intense battle for the lead.
Harvick tried to pass Chastain for the lead of the 24th race of the 33-race season coming off of turn two of the four-turn, 1.366-mile (2.198-kilometer) egg-shaped Darlington Raceway oval in Darlington, South Carolina. In doing so, the driver of the #98 Ford slid up the race track.
Harvick’s car made contact with Chastain’s #42 Chevrolet, causing the latter to hit the wall. Coming off of turn two, Harvick was below Chastain on the race track, but Chastain made sure that Harvick knew he was not pleased with what had just gone down and the damage that his car had sustained because of it.
Chastain intentionally slid into the right rear of Harvick’s car, sending the 2014 Cup Series champion spinning into the wall, effectively ending his race.
Here is a video of the accident.
Chastain, who started the race from the pole position, won both of its stages and led more laps than anybody else in the field with 90 laps led, finished in 25th place, two laps down. Harvick’s race ended after 111 laps. He was officially scored in 29th.
After the accident between Harvick and Chastain ended the race of the 42-year-old Bakersfield, California native, he had some choice words for the 25-year-old Alva, Florida native.
Here is what Harvick had to say about the matter, according to Sporting News.
"“Got a really inexperienced guy in a really fast car. Made a really bad move and then wrecked me. Probably the reason that he’ll never get to drive many of them again.”"

Chastain was making his first Xfinity Series start for Chip Ganassi Racing after previously driving full-time for JR Motorsports in the 2015, 2016 and 2017 seasons and for the first 23 races of the 2018 season.
While Chastain is ineligible to score points in the Cup Series, he has also driven almost full-time for Premium Motorsports in the #15 Chevrolet in the series this season. He missed just two of the season’s first 24 races.
Harvick, meanwhile, was making just his fifth Xfinity Series start of the season in the car shared by him, one of his Stewart-Haas Racing Cup Series teammates Aric Almirola and Chase Briscoe.
Do you believe that Kevin Harvick was right to be upset with Ross Chastain for effectively spinning him out of Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race, or do you believe Harvick initially pinning Chastain against the wall gave Chastain the right to do so?
