With all 11 road or street course races on the 2018 IndyCar schedule in the books, how do the 21 road and street course drivers rank against one another?
The 2018 IndyCar season came to a close with the 11th and final road or street course race of the season, the IndyCar Grand Prix of Sonoma, at Sonoma Raceway. Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay won this race to earn his second road or street course race victory of the season.
By winning the 85-lap race at the 12-turn, 2.385-mile (3.838-kilometer) Sonoma Raceway road course in Sonoma, California, Hunter-Reay became the fourth driver to win two road or street course races of the season and the second driver to win at least one road course race and at least one street course race this season.
Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden won two road course races this season. He won the race at Barber Motorsports Park in April and the race at Road America in June. Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon, the 2018 road and street course champion, won two street course races this season. He won the first race on the streets of Belle Isle in Detroit, Michigan in June and the race on the streets of Toronto, Ontario in July.
Coming into the IndyCar Grand Prix of Sonoma, only Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi had won both a road course race and a street course race this season, and he was the only driver who had done so.
Rossi won the race on the streets of Long Beach, California in April as well as the race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in July. Hunter-Reay’s street course race victory came in the second race on the streets of Belle Isle in June.
