Justin Allgaier is set to return to JR Motorsports in the 2019 NASCAR Xfinity Series season after rumors swirled that he would move to the Cup Series.

Justin Allgaier, who has driven full-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series in eight of the last 10 seasons, is set to return to the series in the 2019 season, and he is set to do so driving for JR Motorsports, the team for which he has driven since the 2016 season.

Allgaier, 32, signed with JR Motorsports as the driver of the #7 Chevrolet ahead of the 2016 season after spending two seasons in the Cup Series as a full-time driver for HScott Motorsports. Prior to the 2014 season, he spent five seasons competing full-time in the Xfinity Series.

Here is what the Spaulding, Illinois native had to say about the opportunity to continue driving the #7 JR Motorsports Chevrolet next season, according to NASCAR.

"“It’s been an interesting Silly Season for sure, but for us, I’m extremely happy with where I’m at…From my standpoint, I’ve got a great team behind me right now and the folks at Brandt have obviously supported me for a number of years now and where we’re at for them, whether it’s with me or not, I think JR Motorsports is a great fit for them as well. There’s a lot of talk, but on the flip side of it unless something really major changes, I don’t see anything changing.“Don’t get me wrong – I still want redemption on the Cup side, I still want to go drive Cup again in some point in my career, I still think that I have the ability to go do it. But it’s going to have to be the perfect scenario.”"

As a result of his success in the Xfinity Series so far this season, it was rumored that Allgaier may end up returning to the Cup Series next season. However, while he stated that it is still his goal to do so, the news of him returning to JR Motorsports for 2019 means that 2019 will not be the year in which he does so.

More from Xfinity Series

Allgaier is in the midst of a career-best season in the Xfinity Series. He entered the season having competed in 240 Xfinity Series races, and he had earned five wins, 52 top five finishes, 128 top 10 finishes and five pole positions in those races.

Through the first 27 races of this season, Allgaier has doubled his career win total, as he earned a career-high five victories in the 26-race regular season en route to securing the regular season championship. He has secured a career-high 15 top five finishes, 21 top 10 finishes and one pole position this season. He sits in third place in the playoff picture with two races remaining in the open round of the playoffs, the round of 16, and six races remaining before the champion is crowned.
