#1: 2012 Coca-Cola 600

The 2012 Coca-Cola 600 will always go down as a historic day in Kasey Kahne’s career. After leading 96 of 400 laps, he joined an elite class of Coca-Cola 600 winners, becoming just the seventh driver in NASCAR history to win three Coca-Cola 600 races.

This list includes other NASCAR greats such as Darrell Waltrip, Buddy Baker, Jeff Gordon, David Pearson, Bobby Allison, Jimmie Johnson and Dale Earnhardt.

More from NASCAR Cup Series

In addition to being his third Coca-Cola 600 victory, this was Kahne’s first race win driving for Hendrick Motorsports, sparking the expectations that many fans already had for the then 32-year-old.

This win will go down as Kahne’s crowning achievement in my book. Most drivers never sniff victory lane in any one of NASCAR’s most prestigious events, and Kahne won one of them three times. There is no doubt that he knew his way around the 1.5-mile “Beast of the Southeast” throughout his 15-year career.

Kahen may have not panned out to be the championship driver we had hoped for, but winning the Coca-Cola 600 three times puts him in rare territory no matter how you cut it.
