Timothy Peters spun out Noah Gragson on the final lap of the Fr8Auctions 250 to win the third and final race of the first round of the 2018 NASCAR Truck Series playoffs.

GMS Racing’s Timothy Peters entered the third and final race of the first round of the 2018 NASCAR Truck Series playoffs, the round of 8, having competed in just three of the season’s first 18 races. Of those three races, he drove the #25 GMS Racing Chevrolet in two.

Peters, who had not won a Truck Series race since he earned his 10th career Truck Series victory in the November race at ISM Raceway in the 2015 season, led only one lap of the Fr8Auctions 250 at Talladega Superspeedway in his #25 Chevrolet, but that one lap was the 94th and final lap of the race.

Coming down the back straightaway of the four-turn, 2.66-mile (4.281-kilometer) Talladega Superspeedway oval in Lincoln, Alabama on the final lap of the race, Kyle Busch Motorsports’ Noah Gragson had the lead in his #18 Toyota. However, as Peters got a run on him, Gragson went to block. Peters spun him out and was in the lead when the caution flag came out.

Here is a video of this crash.

Peters won the race under caution by 0.741 seconds over ThorSport Racing’s Myatt Snider, who was the highest finishing Ford driver of the race in second place in his #13 Ford. Kyle Busch Motorsports’ David Gilliland, who started the race from the pole position, was the highest finishing Toyota driver of the race. He finished in third in his #51 Toyota.

Chevrolet drivers rounded out the rest of the top 12. GMS Racing’s Justin Haley, Premium Motorsports’ Wendell Chavous, Halmar Friesen Racing’s Stewart Friesen, Jordan Anderson Racing’s Jordan Anderson and FDNY Racing’s Bryan Dauzat rounded out the top eight by finishing in fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth place in their #24 Chevrolet, #49 Chevrolet, #52 Chevrolet, #3 Chevrolet and #28 Chevrolet, respectively.

Young’s Motorsports teammates Max Tullman and Austin Hill, Jennifer Jo Cobb Racing’s Jennifer Jo Cobb and Niece Motorsports’ Austin Wayne Self rounded out the top 12 by finishing in ninth, 10th, 11th and 12th place in their #20 Chevrolet, #02 Chevrolet, #10 Chevrolet and #22 Chevrolet, respectively.

Gragson ended up finishing in 13th place, as only 12 drivers finished the race on the lead lap. Of the 20 drivers who entered the race but did not finish it on the lead lap, just seven finished the race.

The race featured a total of 22 lead changes among 13 drivers. Aside of Peters, who led only the final lap of the race, 12 other drivers led at least one lap of the race. Those drivers were Haley, Chavous, Hill, Cobb, Gragson, Grant Enfinger, Todd Gilliland, Johnny Sauter, Spencer Gallagher, Matt Crafton, Bo LeMastus and Joe Nemechek.

Enfinger led more laps than anybody else in the field with 31 laps led. He won stage one and Todd Gilliland won stage two. David Gilliland did not lead any laps of the race despite the fact that he started from the pole position.

The race also featured a total of six caution flag periods for 21 laps. Two of these six caution flag periods took place as a result of the usual endings of stages one and two and the other four took place as a result of on-track incidents.
