Esteban Ocon has been disqualified from the 18th race of the 2018 Formula 1 season, the United States Grand Prix, at Circuit of the Americas.

Racing Point Force India’s Esteban Ocon has been disqualified from the United States Grand Prix, the 18th race on the 21-race 2018 Formula 1 schedule, at Circuit of the Americas following the conclusion of the race.

Ocon, who finished the 56-lap race around the 20-turn, 3.427-mile (5.513-kilometer) Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas in eighth place, was called to the stewards after the race concluded as a result of the fact that he breached Formula 1’s fuel-flow limit of 100 kilograms per hour on the opening lap of the race.

Force India have the right to appeal the decision of the stewards. That said, heading into this race, the only driver who had been penalized so far this season was Haas’ Romain Grosjean, who was disqualified from the Italian Grand Prix, the 14th race of the season, following his sixth place finish in the race. Haas appealed this penalty, but they are still awaiting the verdict of their appeal nearly two months later.

Haas’ Kevin Magnussen was also disqualified from the United States Grand Prix after the race concluded, but he was not disqualified for the same reason that Ocon was. He was disqualified from the race because of the fact that he consumed too much fuel during it. He originally finished in ninth place.

The disqualifications of Ocon and Magnussen promoted Force India’s Sergio Perez, who originally finished the race in 10th place, to eighth. Scuderia Toro Rosso’s Brendon Hartley and Alfa Romeo Sauber’s Marcus Ericsson, who originally finished in 11th and 12th, respectively, were promoted into the points-scoring top 10 positions of ninth and 10th, respectively, as a result of this penalty.

All eight of the drivers who finished the race in 13th place and lower were also promoted by two positions, but their point totals were unaffected since none of them were promoted into the top 10.

Be sure not to miss the live broadcast of the next race on the 2018 Formula 1 schedule, the Mexican Grand Prix, next Sunday, October 28 to see how Esteban Ocon will bounce back from being disqualified from the United States Grand Prix. This race is set to be broadcast live on ABC from Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City, Mexico beginning at 3:10 p.m. ET.
