Kevin Magnussen has been disqualified from the 18th race of the 2018 Formula 1 season, the United States Grand Prix, at Circuit of the Americas.

Haas’ Kevin Magnussen was called to the stewards and subsequently disqualified from the 18th race on the 21-race 2018 Formula 1 schedule, the United States Grand Prix, at Circuit of the Americas following the conclusion of the 56-lap race.

Magnussen, who finished the race around the 20-turn, 3.427-mile (5.513-kilometer) Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas in ninth place, was called to the stewards as result of the fact that he consumed too much fuel throughout the race’s 56 laps.

Haas have the right to appeal the decision of the stewards. That said, Formula 1’s lone American team are still awaiting the verdict from their appeal of the penalty that was given to Romain Grosjean in the Italian Grand Prix back in early September.

More from Formula One

Before today, Grosjean was the only driver disqualified from a race this season. He originally finished that race, the 14th race of the season, in sixth place.

Racing Point Force India’s Esteban Ocon was also disqualified from the United States Grand Prix after the race concluded, but he was not disqualified for the same reason that Magnussen was. He was disqualified from the race because of the fact that he breached Formula 1’s fuel-flow limit of 100 kilograms per hour on the opening lap of the race. He originally finished in eighth place.

The disqualifications of Ocon and Magnussen promoted all 11 drivers who finished the race in 10th place or lower by two positions. Of these 11 drivers, one originally scored one point and ended up scoring more points while two did not originally score points and ended up doing so. Eight originally did not score any points and still did not score points even after these disqualifications.

Force India’s Sergio Perez is the driver who originally scored one point and ended up scoring more points as a result of these disqualifications. He originally finished in 10th place and ended up being promoted to eighth.

Scuderia Toro Rosso’s Brendon Hartley and Alfa Romeo Sauber’s Marcus Ericsson are the two drivers who did not originally score points but ended up doing so as a result of these penalties. They originally finished in 11th and 12th place, respectively, and ended up being promoted to ninth and 10th, respectively.

How will Kevin Magnussen rebound from his disqualification from the United States Grand Prix? Be sure to tune in to the live broadcast of the next Formula 1 race, the Mexican Grand Prix, to find out. This race is set to be broadcast live on ABC from Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez beginning at 3:10 p.m. ET on Sunday, October 28.
