NASCAR Truck Series: Johnny Sauter dominates 2018 Texas Roadhouse 200

Johnny Sauter dominated the Texas Roadhouse 200 to secure his spot in the Championship 4 of the 2018 NASCAR Truck Series playoffs.

GMS Racing’s Johnny Sauter opened up the second of three rounds of the seven-race 2018 NASCAR Truck Series playoffs, the round of 6, with a dominant victory in the Texas Roadhouse 200 at Martinsville Speedway.

Sauter, who started the 200-lap race around the four-turn, 0.526-mile (0.847-kilometer) Martinsville Speedway oval in Ridgeway, Virginia in eighth place, won it by 4.572 seconds in his #21 Chevrolet over Hattori Racing Enterprises’ Brett Moffitt, who finished in second in his #16 Toyota, to secure his berth in the Championship 4.

ThorSport Racing teammates Myatt Snider and Ben Rhodes were the highest finishing Ford drivers of the race. They finished in third and fourth place in their #13 Ford and #41 Ford, respectively. DGR-Crosley’s Kyle Benjamin rounded out the top five by finishing in fifth in his #17 Toyota.

GMS Racing teammates Justin Haley and Timothy Peters finished in sixth and 10th place in their #24 Chevrolet and #23 Chevrolet, respectively. Kyle Busch Motorsports’ teammates Noah Gragson, Harrison Burton and Christian Eckes rounded out the top nine by finishing in seventh, eighth and ninth in their #18 Toyota, #51 Toyota and #46 Toyota, respectively.

The race featured a total of five lead changes among four drivers. Aside of Sauter, who led 148 laps, three other drivers led at least one lap of the race. Those drivers were Snider, Benjamin and race polesitter Todd Gilliland, who finished the race in 12th place in his #4 Kyle Busch Motorsports Toyota. Sauter won both stages one and two.

The race also featured a total of six caution flag periods for 43 laps. Of these six caution flag periods, four took place as a result of on-track incidents and two took place as a result of the usual endings of stages one and two.
