Formula 1: Lewis Hamilton takes pole for 2018 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton took the pole position for the 21st and final race of the 2018 Formula 1 season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, at Yas Marina Circuit.

Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport’s Lewis Hamilton took the pole position for the final race of the 21-race 2018 Formula 1 season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, at Yas Marina Circuit. The pole position his 11th pole position of the season and the 83rd of his Formula 1 career, as he extended his all-time record in that category.

Hamilton took the pole position for the 55-lap race around the 21-turn, 3.451-mile (5.554-kilometer) Yas Marina Circuit on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates by recording a top lap time of 94.794 seconds (131.059 miles per hour) in the third and final qualifying session.

Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas qualified in second place and is set to start the race alongside his teammate on the front row. Scuderia Ferrari teammates Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen are set to start on the second row after qualifying in third and fourth place, respectively.

Aston Martin Red Bull Racing teammates Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen are set to start the race on the third row after qualifying in fifth and sixth place, respectively.

Haas’ Romain Grosjean, Alfa Romeo Sauber rookie Charles Leclerc, Racing Point Force India’s Esteban Ocon and Renault Sport’s Nico Hulkenberg are set to round out the top 10 on the starting grid. They qualified in seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th place, respectively, and were the other four drivers who advanced to the third and final qualifying session.

Renault’s Carlos Sainz Jr., Sauber’s Marcus Ericsson, Haas’ Kevin Magnussen, Force India’s Sergio Perez and McLaren’s Fernando Alonso were eliminated following the second qualifying session for the race. They are set to start in 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th, respectively.

Scuderia Toro Rosso teammates Brendon Hartley and Pierre Gasly as well as McLaren’s Stoffel Vandoorne and Williams Martini Racing teammates Sergey Sirotkin and Lance Stroll were eliminated following the first qualifying session. They are set to start the race in 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th place, respectively.
