After the opening race of the 2018-2019 Formula E season, the 2018 Ad Diriyah ePrix, how do the sport’s 11 teams stack up?
Following the 2017-2018 Formula E season, a season during which they scored just 24 points and finished in 10th (last) place in the team standings, the Andretti team aligned with BMW for the 2018-2019 season.
After the 2018-2019 season opener, BMW i Andretti Motorsport have already scored more points (28) this season than they did all of last season, as Antonio Felix da Costa delivered the team their first Formula E victory by winning the 2018 Ad Diriyah ePrix.
Da Costa started the 33-lap race around the 21-turn, 1.550-mile (2.494-kilometer) Riyadh Street Circuit in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia from the pole position, and he led 24 of its 33 laps en route to securing this victory for the Indianapolis, Indiana-based team, the team that entered the race having competed in Formula E since its inception in the 2014-2015 season without ever having one of their drivers finish on the top step of the podium in any race.

The team’s other driver, Alexander Sims, finished in 18th place as the final driver on the lead lap. From an overall team perspective, last season’s runner-ups, DS Techeetah, had a strong day. Defending series champion Jean-Eric Vergne finished right behind da Costa in second while Andre Lotterer finished in fifth and recorded the race’s fastest lap time.
Panasonic Jaguar Racing, Nissan e.dams and defending series champions Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler also finished the race with both of their drivers in the top 10. Jaguar Racing’s Mitch Evans and Nelson Piquet finished in fourth and 10th place, respectively, while Nissan’s Sebastien Buemi and Oliver Rowland finished in sixth and seventh, respectively, and Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler’s Daniel Abt and Lucas di Grassi finished in eighth and ninth, respectively.
Mahindra Racing were the other team that had one of their drivers finish the race in the top 10. Jerome d’Ambrosio finished in third place.
