Richard Petty leads Dale Earnhardt Sr. after the first day of the NASCAR “GOAT” poll tiebreaker. Can Earnhardt come back?

After 448 of the 896 people who voted in the championship round of the NASCAR “GOAT” poll voted for Richard Petty and the other 448 people voted for Dale Earnhardt Sr., a championship tiebreaker poll was set up between the two seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champions.

This championship tiebreaker went live on our Facebook page at 6:00 a.m. ET on Monday, February 4, and it is set to last until 6:00 a.m. ET on Monday, February 11.

"NASCAR: Greatest Driver of All-Time"CHAMPIONSHIP TIEBREAKER POLL

The original championship poll between Petty and Earnhardt, who entered the 16-driver bracket that this whole “GOAT” poll process started out as as the #1 seed and the #3 seed, respectively, lasted for only one day, as it went live at 6:00 a.m. ET on Thursday, January 31 and lasted until 6:00 a.m. ET on Friday, February 1.

More from NASCAR Cup Series

Because of the fact that this championship poll was the poll that received by far the most votes among any of the polls throughout the entire “GOAT” poll process, including not only the NASCAR polls but the Formula 1 and IndyCar polls as well, as well as the fact that 24 hours was not enough time to declare a winner, the championship tiebreaker poll was created to last for a full week.

This it the case so that even more people will have the chance to vote for either Petty or Earnhardt and that the driver who is more deserving of being considered the greatest NASCAR driver of all-time will come out on top.

After the first day of voting, how do Petty and Earnhardt stack up as far as total votes and percentages are concerned? Take a look below.

NOTE: These vote counts and percentages are accurate as of 5:45 a.m. ET on Tuesday, February 5. Not all poll updates will be based on vote counts at this particular time of day.

Votes since last update (before the poll began): 794

Richard Petty: 466 votes (58.7%)
Dale Earnhardt: 328 votes (41.3%)

Total votes: 794

Richard Petty: 466 votes (58.7%)
Dale Earnhardt: 328 votes (41.3%)

Considering the fact that both Petty and Earnhardt received 448 voted in the original championship poll, Earnhardt has a lot of ground to make up, as Petty has already exceeded 448 votes while Earnhardt still needs 120 votes more to reach that point. He trails Petty by 138 votes (17.4%).

At the point when Petty received 448 votes this time around, he had earned 59.0% of the votes, as Earnhardt had only earned 311 votes (41.0%), meaning he trailed Petty by 137 votes (18.0%) and had only received 69.4% of the votes that he had received by this point in the original championship poll.
