NASCAR Cup Series: Aric Almirola takes pole for 2019 Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500

Aric Almirola took the pole position for the second race of the 2019 NASCAR Cup Series season, the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500, at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Stewart-Haas Racing’s Aric Almirola took the second pole position of his NASCAR Cup Series career and his first of the 2019 season for the season’s second race, the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500, at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Almirola took the pole position for the 334-lap race around the four-turn, 1.54-mile (2.478-kilometer) high-banked Atlanta Motor Speedway oval in Hampton, Georgia by recording a lap at 30.550 seconds (181.473 miles per hour) around the track in his #10 Ford in the third and final qualifying session for it.

Roush Fenway Racing’s Ricky Stenhouse Jr. is set to start the race alongside Almirola on the front row in second place in his #17 Ford. Stewart-Haas Racing’s Clint Bowyer is set to start in third in his #14 Ford, giving Ford drivers a top three sweep of the starting grid.

Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin, who opened up the season by winning the 61st annual Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway, was the highest qualifying Toyota driver for the race. He qualified in fourth place in his #11 Toyota. Stewart-Haas Racing’s Daniel Suarez rounded out the top five by qualifying in fifth in his #41 Ford.

Joe Gibbs Racing’s Kyle Busch qualified in sixth place in his #18 Toyota. Chip Ganassi Racing teammates Kyle Larson and Kurt Busch were the highest qualifying Chevrolet drivers for the race. They qualified in seventh and eighth in their #42 Chevrolet and #1 Chevrolet, respectively. Joe Gibbs Racing’s Martin Truex Jr. and Richard Childress Racing’s Austin Dillon rounded out the top 10 by qualifying in ninth and 10th place in their #19 Toyota and #3 Chevrolet, respectively.

The other two drivers who advanced to the third and final qualifying session for the race were Hendrick Motorsports’ Jimmie Johnson and Front Row Motorsports’ Michael McDowell. They qualified in 11th and 12th place in their #48 Chevrolet and #34 Ford, respectively.
