A total of 38 drivers are set to compete in the third race of the 2019 NASCAR Cup Series season, the Pennzoil 400 presented by Jiffy Lube, at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

After two drivers had to be bumped from the field for the 2019 NASCAR Cup Series season opener, the 61st annual Daytona 500, at Daytona International Speedway to reduce the field to its maximum size of 40 drivers, only 37 drivers entered the second race of the season, the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500, at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

While the field will not be full for the third race of the season this weekend, the Pennzoil 400 presented by Jiffy Lube, at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the entry list for this race contains more drivers for this race than the one for this past weekend’s race at Atlanta Motor Speedway did.

A total of 38 drivers are set to compete in the 267-lap race around the four-turn, 1.5-mile (2.414-kilometer) high-banked Las Vegas Motor Speedway oval in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Of these 38 drivers, 33 are drivers who have competed in both of the season’s first two races and are set to compete in each of the remaining 34 races on the 2019 schedule. Of these 33 drivers, 32 are eligible to earn points. One of them, Premium Motorsports’ Ross Chastain, is a full-time Xfinity Series driver who is earning points in that series as opposed to the Cup Series.

Meanwhile, the other five drivers who are set to compete in this race are part-time drivers. Of these five part-time drivers, three competed in both of the first two races of the season, one attempted but failed to qualify for the Daytona 500 and did not compete in the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 and one has not competed in the Cup Series at all this season.

Three of these five drivers are set to drive for chartered teams while two are not. Two of these three drivers are two of the three drivers who competed in the first races of the season while the other one is the driver who has not compete in the Cup Series at all this season.

That said, the idea of driving for a chartered team as opposed to driving for a non-chartered team will not matter much for this particular race considering the fact that the field for the race will not contain the maximum driver total of 40. Therefore, the field size will not need to be reduced by bumping.
