Formula E: Stoffel Vandoorne takes pole for 2019 Hong Kong ePrix

Stoffel Vandoorne took his first career Formula E pole position for the fifth race of the 2018-2019 season, the Hong Kong ePrix, at Hong Kong Central Harbourfront Circuit.

HWA Racelab’s Stoffel Vandoorne became the fifth different polesitter in five Formula E races so far in the 2018-2019 season, as he took the pole position for the season’s fifth race, the Hong Kong ePrix, at Hong Kong Central Harbourfront Circuit. This pole position is the first of his Formula E career.

Vandoorne took the pole position for the 45-minute race around the 16-turn, 1.16-mile (1.867-kilometer) Hong Kong Central Harbourfront Circuit temporary street circuit on Central Harbourfront of Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong by recording a top lap time of 71.580 seconds (58.340 miles per hour) in the Super Pole qualifying session in his #5 Spark-Venturi.

Nissan e.dams’ Oliver Rowland is set to start the race alongside Vandoorne after qualifying in second place in his #22 Spark-Nissan with a top lap time that was 0.323 seconds (0.262 miles per hour) slower than that of Vandoorne in the Super Pole qualifying session. Venturi’s Edoardo Mortara qualified in third in his #48 Spark-Venturi.

DS Techeetah’s Andre Lotterer and HWA Racelab’s Gary Paffett are set to round out the top five on the starting grid. They qualified in fourth and fifth place in their #36 Spark-DS Automobiles and #17 Spark-Venturi, respectively.

Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler’s Lucas di Grassi was the slowest qualifier of the six drivers who made it into the Super Pole qualifying session. As a result, he qualified in sixth place in his #11 Spark-Audi. Envision Virgin Racing’s Sam Bird, Nissan e.dams’ Sebastien Buemi, Venturi’s Felipe Massa and Envision Virgin Racing’s Robin Frijns are set to round out the top 10 on the starting grid after qualifying in seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th in their #2 Spark-Audi, #23 Spark-Nissan, #19 Spark-Venturi and #4 Spark-Audi, respectively.
