Alex Lynn is set to replace Nelson Piquet Jr. as the teammate to Mitch Evans at Panasonic Jaguar Racing for the remainder of the 2018-2019 Formula E season.

Panasonic Jaguar Racing and Nelson Piquet Jr., who had driven for the team since the start of the 2017-2018 Formula E season, parted ways on Thursday. The team have signed Alex Lynn as the replacement for the 2014-2015 champion for the remainder of the 2018-2019 season.

For the final seven races on the 13-race 2018-2019 schedule, the 25-year-old Briton is set to be the teammate to Mitch Evans, who has driven for Panasonic Jaguar Racing since his Formula E career began in the 2016-2017 season.

Here is what Lynn had to say about the opportunity to drive for Panasonic Jaguar Racing throughout the remainder of the 2018-2019 season, according to RACER.

"“I am really excited to get behind the wheel of the Jaguar I-TYPE 3 in Rome. Joining Panasonic Jaguar Racing is a great opportunity for me. I am focused on working with Mitch, the engineers and technicians to put in a strong performance from now until the end of the season.”"

Lynn previously drove in Formula E in the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 seasons, and he drove for DS Virgin Racing in both seasons. He only competed in two races in the 2016-2017 season, and he was forced to retire from them both, but he was a full-time driver last season.

More from Formula E

Lynn finished in 16th place in the 2017-2018 driver standings after recording five top 10 finishes in the season’s 12 races. He failed to finish any of the season’s final six races in the top 13 after reeling off five top 10 finishes, including a career-high sixth place finish, in the first half of the season.

When Piquet Jr. and Panasonic Jaguar Racing parted ways, the 33-year-old Brazilian had earned only one point on his lone top 10 finish, his 10th place finish in the season opener, through the first six races of the season. He sits in 20th place in the driver standings.

Meanwhile, Evans has not yet finished a race outside of the top nine this season, and his average finish of 7.00 is the second best average finish among the average finishes of the sport’s drivers through the season’s first six races as a result of it.

The 24-year-old New Zealander has finished between fourth and ninth place in each of the these six races, but he only sits in 10th in the driver standings largely due to the fact that he has not yet finished a race on the podium, much less won one.
