Andre Lotterer took his first pole position of the 2018-2019 Formula E season for the season’s seventh race, the Rome ePrix, at Circuito Cittadino dell’EUR.

DS Techeetah’s Andre Lotterer became the seventh different driver to take a pole position for a race through the first seven races of the 13-race 2018-2019 Formula E season, as he took the pole position for the season’s seventh race, the Rome ePrix, at Circuito Cittadino dell’EUR. This pole position is the first pole position of his Formula E career.

BMW i Andretti Motorsport’s Antonio Felix da Costa, Envision Virgin Racing’s Sam Bird, Nissan e.dams’ Sebastien Buemi, Mahindra Racing’s Pascal Wehrlein, HWA Racelab’s Stoffel Vandoorne and Nissan e.dams’ Oliver Rowland are the other six drivers who have taken one pole position so far this season.

Lotterer took the pole position for this 45-minute race around the 21-turn, 1.77-mile (2.849-kilometer) Circuito Cittadino dell’EUR temporary street circuit in Rome, Italy by recording a top lap time of 92.123 seconds (69.168 miles per hour) in the Super Pole qualifying session for the race in his #36 Spark-DS Automobiles.

Due to the rain that came down between the previous round of qualifying and the Super Pole qualifying session, the first half of the track was dry while the second half of the track was wet for this session, which caused a slight reduction in lap speeds after Lotterer recorded a top lap time of 89.761 seconds (70.986 miles per hour) to advance to this session as the fastest driver.

However, as the track dried out, it became faster, and with Lotterer being the final driver to make his qualification attempt, he was at an advantage. He ultimately recorded a top lap time that was 0.360 seconds (0.269 miles per hour) faster than that of the driver who qualified in second place.

That second place qualifier was Panasonic Jaguar Racing’s Mitch Evans, who is set to start the race alongside Lotterer on the front row in his #20 Spark-Jaguar. Geox Dragon Racing’s Jose Maria Lopez qualified in third place in his #7 Spark-Penske and is set to start alongside Vandoorne in fourth in his #5 Spark-Venturi.

Geox Dragon Racing’s Maximilian Gunther is set to round out the top five on the starting grid, as he qualified in fifth place in his #6 Spark-Penske. Buemi was the slowest of the six drivers who made it into the Super Pole qualifying session and is set to start the race in sixth alongside Gunther in his #23 Spark-Nissan.

Venturi’s Edoardo Mortara, Envision Virgin Racing’s Robin Frijns, Panasonic Jaguar Racing’s Alex Lynn and Wehrlein are set to round out the top 10 on the starting grid, as they qualified in seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th place in their #48 Spark-Venturi, #4 Spark-Audi, #3 Spark-Jaguar and #94 Spark-Mahindra, respectively.
