By Asher Fair
Tyler Reddick earned his first victory of the 2019 NASCAR Xfinity Series season by winning the MoneyLion 300 at Talladega Superspeedway.
Defending NASCAR Xfinity Series champion Tyler Reddick earned his first victory of the 33-race 2019 season by winning the season’s ninth race, the MoneyLion 300, at Talladega Superspeedway.
He also won the $100,000 Dash 4 Cash prize for being the highest finishing driver of the four drivers who were eligible to win this prize in this particular race. The other three drivers who were eligible to win this prize were Stewart-Haas Racing’s Cole Custer, Team Penske’s Austin Cindric and JR Motorsports’ Justin Allgaier.
Reddick’s victory in this race was also his first victory driving for Richard Childress Racing, as he left JR Motorsports after winning last season’s championship to drive the #2 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet this season.

Reddick, who started the 113-lap race around the four-turn, 2.66-mile (4.281-kilometer) high-banked Talladega Superspeedway oval in Lincoln, Alabama in second place in his #2 Chevrolet, won it by 0.127 seconds over SS-Green Light Racing’s Gray Gaulding, who recorded a career-high second place finish in his #08 Chevrolet.
Gaudling was charging hard after the race’s final restart took place with two laps remaining, but he could not quite secure what would have been the first victory of not only his Xfinity Series career but of his entire NASCAR career.
The top 11 drivers finished within 0.682 seconds of one another. Joe Gibbs Racing’s Christopher Bell was the highest finishing Toyota driver of the race, as he finished in third place in his #20 Toyota, 0.245 seconds behind Reddick.

JR Motorsports’ Brett Moffitt, Jimmy Means Racing’s David Starr, Brandonbilt Motorsports’ Brandon Brown and RSS Racing’s Ryan Sieg rounded out the top 16 by finishing in 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th place in their #8 Chevrolet, #52 Chevrolet, #86 Chevrolet and #39 Chevrolet, respectively, to give Chevrolet drivers 13 of the top 16 positions.
The race featured a total of 15 lead changes among 10 drivers. Aside of Reddick, who led more laps than anybody else in the field with 34 laps led, nine drivers led at least one lap of the race.
These nine drivers were Bell, Briscoe, Gragson, Starr, Joe Gibbs Racing’s Brandon Jones, Jeremy Clements Racing’s Jeremy Clements, Allgaier, Kaulig Racing’s Ross Chastain and JR Motorsports’ Michael Annett.
Jones, Clements, Allgaier, Chastain and Annett finished in 18th, 27th, 28th, 30th and 31st place in their #19 Toyota, #51 Chevrolet, #7 Chevrolet, #10 Chevrolet, and #1 Chevrolet, respectively.
The race also featured a total of eight caution flag periods, including six that took place as a result of on-track incidents and two that took place as a result of the usual endings of stages one and two. Of the 37 drivers who started the race, 26 finished it, and of the 26 drivers who finished the race, 22 finished it on the lead lap.
JD Motorsports’ B.J. McLeod, who finished the race in 22nd place as the final driver on the lead lap, finished just 3.823 seconds behind Reddick.
