NASCAR Cup Series: Chase Elliott takes pole for 2019 Gander RV 400

Chase Elliott took the pole position for the 11th race of the 2019 NASCAR Cup Series season, the Gander RV 400, at Dover International Speedway.
Hendrick Motorsports’ Chase Elliott became the third driver to take two pole positions through the first 11 races of the 36-race 2019 NASCAR Cup Series season, as he took the pole position for the season’s 11th race, the Gander RV 400, at Dover International Speedway. He also took the pole position for the season’s eighth race at Bristol Motor Speedway.
Elliott took the pole position for this 400-lap race around the four-turn, 1.0-mile (1.609-kilometer) high-banked Dover International Speedway oval in Dover, Delaware by recording a top lap time of 21.692 seconds (165.960 miles per hour) in the single-car qualifying session in his #9 Chevrolet.
Elliott, who won the most recent race at Dover International Speedway in the round of 12 of last season’s playoffs in October, led a top three Chevrolet sweep and a top two Hendrick Motorsports sweep of the speed chart in this qualifying session.

Hendrick Motorsports’ William Byron qualified in second place in his #24 Chevrolet while Chip Ganassi Racing’s Kyle Larson qualified in third in his #42 Chevrolet. This race is the fourth race of the season that has featured a top two Hendrick Motorsports sweep in the qualifying session, as they also pulled this off in the races at Daytona International Speedway, Texas Motor Speedway and Bristol Motor Speedway.
Team Penske’s Joey Logano was the highest qualifying Ford driver of the race. He qualified in fourth place in his #22 Ford. Hendrick Motorsports’ Alex Bowman qualified in fifth in his #88 Chevrolet.
Stewart-Haas Racing teammates Kevin Harvick and Aric Almirola qualified in sixth and seventh place in their #4 Ford and #10 Ford, respectively. Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin was the highest qualifying Toyota driver of the race. He qualified in eighth in his #11 Toyota.
Team Penske’s Brad Keselowski and Stewart-Haas Racing’s Clint Bowyer are set to round out the top 10 on the starting grid, as they qualified in ninth and 10th place in their #2 Ford and #14 Ford, respectively.
