William Byron is still seeking the first victory of his NASCAR Cup Series career in his second season as a full-time driver. When will he get the job done?

Entering the 36-race 2019 NASCAR Cup Series, three of the 17 drivers who drive for the top-tier teams of Joe Gibbs Racing, Stewart-Haas Racing, Hendrick Motorsports, Team Penske or Chip Ganassi Racing had not yet earned any victories in their careers.

Among these drivers was Hendrick Motorsports’ William Byron, who was a rookie last season and had not competed in any Cup Series races until last season.

All three of these drivers are still winless 10 races into the 2019 season, but two of the three have tied their previous career-high finishes or recorded new career-high finish. In Byron’s case, he tied his career-high finish.

Ironically, all three of these drivers also entered the 2019 season having recorded their career-high finishes in the same race, the July race at Pocono Raceway last season.

The 21-year-old Charlotte, North Carolina native recorded four top 10 finishes last season en route to a 23rd place finish in the championship standings. He recorded a career-high finish of sixth place in this race at Pocono Raceway.

Through the first 10 races of the 2019 season, Byron has recorded only one top 10 finish, but that top 10 finish was a career-high sixth place finish in the March race at Texas Motor Speedway. He currently sits in 19th in the championship standings.

When will Byron break through with his first career victory?

With 46 career Cup Series starts under his belt, the fact that Byron has only managed to finish in the top 10 in five races is a bit discouraging. However, if he could only start finishing races where he starts them, he may win sooner than many of us think, as he has shown on multiple occasions that he has the speed that it takes to win races, perhaps even on a regular basis.

Byron took the pole position for the 2019 season opener, the Daytona 500, at Daytona International Speedway, but he went on to finish it in 21st place as a result of the fact that he was involved in a late crash after leading 44 laps.

Byron’s sixth place finish in the race at Texas Motor Speedway came after he started the race in second and led 15 laps. He then started in second in the next race at Bristol Motor Speedway, but he failed to lead any laps and ended up finishing in 16th.

For tomorrow’s race at Dover International Speedway, Byron qualified in second place once again, marking his fourth front row start through the season’s first 11 races. He finished in 14th and 19th after starting in 17th and 22nd, respectively, in the two races at the track last season, so he has been fairly consistent at the track in terms of finishing where he starts.
