NC Education Lottery 200 preview

The Truck Series is now set to head to Charlotte Motor Speedway for the NC Education Lottery 200. Coming into the Digital Ally 250, there were concerns about the amount of drivers entered into the race. Eventually, 30 drivers competed in this race at Kansas Speedway, which is two drivers short of a full field.

Charlotte Motor Speedway is the home track for many NASCAR teams. With it being so close to teams’ shops, there may very well be a full field. There could even be a driver or two who fail to qualify for the race. Roper Racing and On Point Motorsports are expected to enter Cory Roper and Brennan Poole in this race, respectively. CMI Motorsports are also set to enter Stefan Parsons.

Kyle Busch is set to drive his #51 Kyle Busch Motorsports Toyota in this race. He is an instant threat to win, as he has won every Truck Series race in which he has competed so far this season. Fortunately, the NC Education Lottery 200 is the last of his five scheduled Truck Series race this season. He has won seven Truck Series races at the track, with his most recent victory there coming in May of 2017.

Two ThorSport Racing drivers have also won at least one Truck Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Matt Crafton has won there twice, in May of 2008 and May of 2016, and the two-time NASCAR Truck Series champion would like nothing more than to beat Kyle Busch, win at Charlotte Motor Speedway, and most likely clinch his playoff berth. Meanwhile, Johnny Sauter actually beat Kyle Busch and 30 other drivers, last year in this race.

One interesting trend from the Truck Series races at Charlotte Motor Speedway is the number of caution flag periods. Over the last five races, there have been 33 caution flag periods, or an average of 6.6 per race.

Subtract two caution flag periods for the endings of stages one and two in the races at the track in the 2017 and 2018 seasons, and there are still typically between four or five other caution flag periods in races there, so the race at 1.5-mile (2.414-kilometer) Charlotte Motor Speedway oval in Concord, North Carolina should feature plenty of exciting racing throughout the field.
