Johnny Sauter won for the third time in seven races so far in the 2018 NASCAR Truck Series season, and he did so in the NC Education Lottery 200.

Johnny Sauter won his third race of the 2018 NASCAR Truck Series season by winning the NC Education Lottery 200 at Charlotte Motor Speedway from the pole position. He held off NASCAR Cup Series regular Kyle Busch by 1.34 seconds to win the race.

Sauter’s victory was his third through seven races so far this season in his #21 GMS Racing Chevrolet, and it was his second in the last three races, as he also won at Dover International Speedway two weeks ago.

Sauter is pulling away in the championship standings and in the playoff standings as a result of his success so far this season, which includes just one finish outside of the top five.

The race around the four-turn, 1.5-mile Charlotte Motor Speedway quad oval in Concord, North Carolina featured 11 lead changes among five drivers. Those four other leaders were Brett Moffitt, Noah Gragson, John Hunter Nemechek and Jordan Anderson. Moffitt won stage one and Nemechek won stage two.

The race also featured seven caution flag periods for 36 laps, with five caution periods taking place as a result of incidents on the track. The first incident-related caution flag period of the race began on lap 21 for debris in turn.

The second incident-related caution flag period of the race began on lap 85 when Justin Fontaine spun in turn four. The third incident-related caution flag period of the race began on lap 92 when Josh Reaume spun in turn four.

The fourth incident-related caution flag period of the race began on lap 117 for debris on the backstretch. The fifth and final incident-related caution flag period of the race began on lap 124 after an accident involving Austin Wayne Self, Matt Crafton, Todd Gilliland, Jordan Anderson and John Hunter Nemechek.
