Biggest Movers
Up: Kurt Busch (+5)
Down: Ryan Blaney, Chase Elliott (-4)

While Kurt Busch finished the Coke Zero Sugar 400 in 10th place and did so after a pit strategy call that ultimately turned out to be the call that threw away a potential race victory, something he could have very well earned even after wrecking earlier in the carnage-filled race, he still shot up five positions from eighth to third in the NASCAR Cup Series Driver Power Rankings.

Busch’s 10th place finish in this race replaced his 27th place in the race at Charlotte Motor Speedway in the calculation for his average finish in the last five races, thus bringing that average down by 3.40 all the way from 13.20 to 9.80.

Meanwhile, Chase Elliott’s plunge down these rankings continued. After he was ranked in the top spot four races ago, he has dropped nearly halfway down the rankings to 14th. This is the case because of the fact that he ascended to first when he was on a career-long five-race top five streak. In the four races that have taken place since then, his average finishing position is 25.75, and he has not finished in the top 10.

Elliott’s fourth place finish in the race at Pocono Raceway in early June is his next result to be replaced in the calculation for his average finish in the last five races, so he will need to finish the next race at Kentucky Speedway in the top four to prevent his average finish in the last five races from sinking further than where it already is at 21.40.

The Quaker State 400 is the next race on the 2019 NASCAR Cup Series schedule. This race is set to be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network from Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, Kentucky beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET next Saturday, July 13.
