Jones overcame a pit road speeding penalty and a pit road incident with Hendrick Motorsports’ Alex Bowman, and he thought he committed a pit road commitment line violation late in the race, although he did not and was not penalized. Truex Jr. overcome an earlier incident with Stewart-Haas Racing’s Clint Bowyer while Busch overcome hitting the turn one wall late in the race.
Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney finished in fourth place in his #12 Ford. Matt DiBenedetto, who drives for the Joe Gibbs Racing-affiliated Leavine Family Racing, finished in fifth in his #95 Toyota. This fifth place finish is the second top five finish of his career, and it is his second top five finish in the last five races, as he finished in a career-high fourth in the race at Sonoma Raceway last month.
Roush Fenway Racing’s Ryan Newman recovered for a seventh place finish in his #6 Ford after his team repaired an engine issue in his car. Team Penske teammates Joey Logano and Brad Keselowski, who started the race on the pole position, finished in ninth and 10th in their #22 Ford and #2 Ford, respectively.
Hendrick Motorsports’ William Byron was the highest finishing Chevrolet driver of the race. He finished in 12th place in his #24 Chevrolet behind Stewart-Haas Racing’s Aric Almirola in 11th in his #10 Ford.
This race featured a total of 13 lead changes among seven drivers. Aside of Harvick, who led 41 laps of the race, six other drivers led at least one lap. Busch led more laps than anybody else in the field with 118 laps led while Hamlin was close behind him with 113 laps led. Jones, Logano, Keselowski and Almirola also led at least one lap of the race. Busch won stage one while Almirola won stage two.
This race also featured a total of nine caution flag periods, of which seven took place as a result of on-track incidents and two took place as a result of the usual endings of stages one and two. Of the 37 drivers who started the race, 32 finished it, and of these 32 drivers, 18 finished on the lead lap.
