NASCAR Truck Series: Brett Moffitt wins 2019 UNOH 200
By Asher Fair
Brett Moffitt opened up the 2019 NASCAR Truck Series playoffs with a victory at Bristol Motor Speedway in the UNOH 200 to lock himself into the round of 6.
Reigning NASCAR Truck Series champion Brett Moffitt of GMS Racing opened up the 2019 playoffs in perfect fashion, starting the UNOH 200 at Bristol Motor Speedway from the pole position and going on to win it to secure his advancement from the round of 8 to the round of 6.
Moffitt won this 200-lap race around the four-turn, 0.533-mile (0.858-kilometer) high-banked Bristol Motor Speedway oval in Bristol, Tennessee after leading 65 laps in his #24 Chevrolet, and he won it by 0.743 seconds over Kyle Busch Motorsports’ Chandler Smith in second place in his #51 Toyota. Smith is not a playoff driver, nor is he a full-time Truck Series driver.
Niece Motorsports’ Ross Chastain, who was one of the other two drivers who led this race and led a race-high 78 of its laps, finished in third place in his #45 Chevrolet after overcoming a pit road penalty that sent him to the back of the pack.

Halmar Friesen Racing’s Stewart Friesen, who himself was spun out and involved in a wreck, rallied to finish in fourth place in his #52 Chevrolet.
ThorSport Racing’s Grant Enfinger, the only other driver who led the race aside of Moffitt and Chastain, led 57 laps en route to a fifth place finish in his #98 Ford.
GMS Racing’s Sheldon Creed, ThorSport Racing teammates Matt Crafton and Ben Rhodes, Kyle Busch Motorsports’ Todd Gilliland and Hattori Racing Enterprises’ Austin Hill rounded out the top 10 by finishing in sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th place in their #2 Chevrolet, #88 Ford, #98 Ford, #4 Toyota and #16 Toyota, respectively.
The only two playoff drivers who finished outside of the top 10 were ThorSport Racing’s Johnny Sauter, who finished in 11th place in his #13 Ford, and DGR-Crosley’s Tyler Ankrum, who finished in 20th in his #17 Toyota.
The three drivers who led this race exchange the lead nine times. This race, while it was only a 106.6-mile race, featured a total of 12 caution flag periods, of which 10 took place as a result of on-track incidents. Of the 32 drivers who started the race, 22 finished it and 18 finished on the lead lap.
