By Asher Fair
Denny Hamlin took the pole position for the Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway. This pole position is his first pole position of the 2019 NASCAR Cup Series season.

Hamlin took the pole position for this 500-lap race around the four-turn, 0.533-mile (0.858-kilometer) high-banked Bristol Motor Speedway oval in Bristol, Tennessee by recording a top lap time of 14.848 seconds (129.230 miles per hour) in his #11 Toyota in the single-car qualifying session for this race.

Stewart-Haas Racing’s Aric Almirola was the highest qualifying Ford driver for this race. He is set to round of the top five on the starting grid in fifth place in his #10 Ford.
Hendrick Motorsports’ Chase Elliott qualified in sixth place in his #9 Chevrolet ahead of Leavine Family Racing’s Matt DiBenedetto, who tied his career-high starting position by qualifying in seventh in his #95 Toyota.
Stewart-Haas Racing’s Kevin Harvick, Joe Gibbs Racing’s Erik Jones and Hendrick Motorsports’ Alex Bowman are set to round out the top 10 on the starting grid after qualifying in eighth, ninth and 10th place in their #4 Ford, #20 Toyota and #88 Chevrolet, respectively.
The only Joe Gibbs Racing driver who failed to qualify in the top nine was Kyle Busch, and he qualified in a disastrous 31st place in his #18 Toyota, marking his worst qualifying performance since he qualifying in 31st for the season-opening Daytona International Speedway as a result of his finish in his qualifying race.
Busch, who won the April race at Bristol Motor Speedway and has won three of the last four races at the track, had not qualified this poorly in a regular qualifying session since he qualified in 32nd place for last season’s April race at Richmond Raceway.
