NASCAR Truck Series: Tyler Dippel suspension cause revealed
By Asher Fair
The reason why NASCAR suspended Truck Series driver Tyler Dippel indefinitely last Friday was revealed following several days of speculation.
Last Friday, NASCAR indefinitely suspended Young’s Motorsports Truck Series driver Tyler Dippel ahead of the Chevrolet Silverado 250, a race in which he was slated to compete, at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
Dippel was in the midst of his rookie season competing in the Truck Series, and he had competed in all 17 of the races that had been contested prior to this race.
Two races before his suspension, he finished in a career-high third place in the regular season finale at Michigan International Speedway. He failed to qualify for the playoffs and sat in 13th place in the championship standings with three top 10 finishes and an average finish of 15.29.
At the time his suspension was announced, it was revealed only that he had been indefinitely suspended for violating the Member Conduct Guidelines of the NASCAR Rule Book. Specifically, he violated Section 12.1 pertaining to actions detrimental to stock car racing.

But because no other details were revealed, there still could have been many potential reasons why he was suspended.
Now the exact reason why the 19-year-old Wallkill, New York native is not allowed to compete at this time has been revealed.
On Sunday, August 18, Dippel was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree by New York State Police in his hometown, which is a Class A misdemeanor, after troopers pulled over his car and found Amphetamine and Dextroamphetamine in a pill bottle inside a backpack.
Fox Sports reporters Alan Cavanna and Bob Pockrass released a series of detailed tweets about the events that led up to this discovery, which is why NASCAR imposed this suspension.
Dippel was also charged with a reckless driving misdemeanor back in March, and the sanctioning body is able to take into account a driver’s history when determining whether or not a suspension should be handed down.
Young’s Motorsports have not yet revealed who will serve as Dippel’s replacement behind the wheel of the #02 Chevrolet moving forward. D.J. Kennington replaced him for this past Sunday’s race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
The next race on the NASCAR Truck Series schedule is the World of Westgate at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, which is not scheduled to take place for another few weeks. This race is the round of 8 finale and is slated to begin at 9:00 p.m. ET on Friday, September 13, so Young’s Motorsports still have some time to consider their options.
