In his first NASCAR Xfinity Series start since last year’s race at Darlington Raceway, Denny Hamlin won the Sport Clips Haircuts VFW 200 to secure his sixth Xfinity Series victory at the track.

Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin earned his sixth NASCAR Xfinity Series victory at Darlington Raceway in his first start in the series since last year’s race at “The Lady in Black”. He took the checkered flag to win the Sport Clips Haircuts VFW 200, the 24th of 33 races on the 2019 schedule.

Hamlin started this 147-lap race around the four-turn, 1.366-mile (2.198-kilometer) Darlington Raceway oval in Darlington, South Carolina all the way back in 37th place out of 38 drivers in his #11 Toyota, and he won it by 0.602 seconds over in Stewart-Haas Racing’s Cole Custer in second in his #00 Ford.

Richard Childress Racing’s Tyler Reddick was the highest finishing Chevrolet driver of this race. He finished in third place in his #2 Chevrolet ahead Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney, who started from the pole position, in fourth in his #12 Ford. Joe Gibbs Racing’s Christopher Bell finished in fifth in his #20 Toyota.

In his first Xfinity Series start since last September’s race at Richmond Raceway, JR Motorsports’ Dale Earnhardt Jr. finished in sixth place in his #8 Chevrolet. He made his return to the series just over two weeks after he and his family survived a plane crash, although he did sustain minor injuries that brought forth questions regarding whether or not he would compete.

Stewart-Haas Racing’s Chase Briscoe, Joe Gibbs Racing’s Brandon Jones and JR Motorsports teammates Noah Gragson and Justiin Allgaier rounded out the top 10 by finishing in seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th place in their #98 Ford, #19 Toyota, #9 Chevrolet and #7 Chevrolet, respectively.

This race featured only five lead changes among three leaders. Aside of Hamlin, who led 27 laps, the only other drivers who led the race were Reddick and Blaney. Reddick led a race-high 70 laps while Blaney led the other 50. Reddick won stage one while Blaney won stage two.

This race featured only five caution flag periods, and 31 of the 38 drivers who competed in it finished it. Of the 31 drivers who finished the race, 20 finished on the lead lap.
