Formula 1 has been tipped to finally race in Miami in the 2021 season, as the sport and Hard Rock Stadium have reached an agreement in principle.

The Miami Grand Prix appeared to be slated for addition to the 2019 Formula 1 schedule on a 10-year contract, making the United States the only country to host more than one race in a single season, as the annual United States Grand Prix is held at the 20-turn, 3.427-mile (5.513-kilometer) Circuit of the Americas road course in Austin, Texas.

But the deal for Formula 1 to compete in the Biscayne Bay area around a street course that ran around the American Airlines Arena, the home of the Miami Heat of the NBA, and Miami’s Freedom Tower and also crossed the harbor and then came back to the downtown area of the city fell through, and plans for that race were scrapped.

Now the Miami Grand Prix has been tipped land on the 2021 schedule, but at a different location in the South Florida city.

Formula 1 and Hard Rock Stadium, the home of the Miami Dolphins, have reached an agreement in principle to run the the race around the stadium.

The street course for this race has already been designed. It consists mostly of car parks and land owned by Hard Rock Stadium.

The track also includes roughly half a mile of public roads. Here is what Hard Rock Stadium and Dolphins vice chairman and CEO Tom Garfinkel and Formula 1 managing director of commercial operations Sean Bratches had to say about the matter in a joint statement.

Garfinkel also shared a message on his personal Twitter account about the Miami Grand Prix, and it included a virtual depiction of the track in addition to a track map.

But as has become typical when it comes to potential additions, there is local opposition, just as there was before the previous attempt of the race was scrapped.

Local residents met last month to express their concerns about the race, and here is what the host of this gathering, county commissioner Barbara Jordan, had to say about the matter, according to Motorsport.

"“It solidified my position as a no. In terms of something this community does not want.”"

The Miami-Dade County Commission must still approve this venue before the race is officially added to the 2021 calendar.

Will the Miami Grand Prix officially be added to the 2021 Formula 1 schedule at a new location after it was slated to be added to the 2019 schedule before the deal fell through? This time around, it certainly appears to be better positioned to join the schedule.
