The stage is set for the 2019 NASCAR Xfinity Series Championship 4 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, and at the end of the round of 8, it really wasn’t close.

JR Motorsports’ Justin Allgaier clinched his third 2019 NASCAR Xfinity Series Championship 4 appearance in the last four seasons with his victory in Saturday afternoon’s Desert Diamond Casino West Valley 200 at ISM Raceway.

Allgaier’s victory in this 200-lap race around the four-turn, 1.022-mile (1.645-kilometer) ISM Raceway oval in Avondale, Arizona was only his first victory of the season, and it ended a 39-race win drought to send him to the Championship 4 for the first time since the 2017 season.

Last season, Allgaier failed to qualify for the Championship 4 despite the fact that he had a career year with five victories. This year, however, he is the hottest driver in the field with seven top five finishes in the last eight races and 16 consecutive top nine finishes.

He was well overdue for a victory, and his first victory of 2019 couldn’t have come at a better time.

Set to join Allgaier in the Championship 4 at Homestead-Miami Speedway next Saturday, November 16 are Joe Gibbs Racing’s Christopher Bell, Stewart-Haas Racing’s Cole Custer and Richard Childress Racing’s Tyler Reddick.

Bell won the second of three races in the round of 8 of the three-round, seven-race playoffs at Texas Motor Speedway to become the first driver to clinch a spot in the Championship 4. Joe Gibbs Racing’s Brandon Jones won the opening race of the round of 8 at Kansas Speedway, but he had already been eliminated from championship contention following the round of 12.

Custer locked himself into the Championship 4 based on his point total during the Desert Diamond Casino West Valley 200 while Reddick locked himself into it based on his point total upon the race’s conclusion.

Nobody else really came close to advancing on points, with Stewart-Haas Racing’s Chase Briscoe finishing 44 points behind Reddick. In fact, Allgaier even finished 36 points ahead of Briscoe, so he would have advanced to the Championship 4 even had he not won at ISM Raceway, provided a driver below the cut line didn’t win.
