Cole Custer

In the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series season, Cole Custer is slated to replace Daniel Suarez behind the wheel of the #41 Ford at Stewart-Haas Racing. Custer is the last member of the “Big 3” in the Xfinity Series who will be fighting for the Cup Series Rookie of the Year Award this year.

Along with Tyler Reddick, Custer has competed in some Cup Series races. In the 2018 season, he  competed in three events for Rick Ware Racing at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Pocono Raceway and Richmond Raceway. All of his finishes were either 25th or 26th place, but he did complete 820 out of the 827 laps. That experience could be valuable during his rookie season.

Over the past two seasons in the Xfinity Series, Custer has record eight wins in 66 starts and has come home with two runner-up finishes in the championship standings. If not for Reddick, Custer would have two straight Xfinity Series championships to his name.

Custer really broke out in the 2019 season by recording seven wins after entering the year with just two in two full seasons. This made the decision for the team to promote him less of a challenge, as they needed to get him to NASCAR’s top series as soon as possible.

Custer just turned 22 years old last month. He has progressed quickly and has plenty of time to develop into a superstar at NASCAR’s top level. Some tracks at which he could be a threat to win are Chicagoland Speedway and Kentucky Speedway. He earned wins at both of those tracks in the 2019 season and Stewart-Haas Racing should be good at the 1.5-mile ovals.
