1. Indianapolis 500

The Indianapolis 500 is not only the biggest race in IndyCar and the United States, but the biggest race in the world. It is known as the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing”, and for all of the right reasons. So how could it not be the number one race on this list?

More from Formula One

It is part of the Triple Crown of Motorsport, along with the Monaco Grand Prix and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Indy 500 isn’t only the biggest race of the year; it is the biggest single-day sporting event that takes place every year.

On race day, there are more than 300,000 people on the grounds of Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which is an insane amount. In terms of worldwide attention, not just United States attention, it is the most watched race across the globe each year. It is, without a doubt, the biggest race to win.

The Indy 500 also features many IndyCar drivers who hail from different countries around the world. That only adds to magnitude of this event, giving it a feel of featuring the best drivers in the world, not just in the country.

With the race being over 100 years old, having been held for the first time back in 1911, there is so much history to go along with it as well.

And there is so much more to be added.
