Denny Hamlin

The two other winners of the eNASCAR iRacing Pro Invitational Series races that have been contested so far, Timmy Hill and William Byron, have already been discussed in this article, leaving only the series’ inaugural race winner, Denny Hamlin.

More from NASCAR

Hamlin, the winner at virtual Homestead-Miami Speedway, is by far the most experienced and most accomplished driver among the three winners so far, with 38 career Cup Series victories and three Daytona 500 wins to his name.

IndyCar has never been something that he has explicitly expressed an interest in, but his interest in iRacing is evident now more than ever. His rig alone should have IndyCar drivers reaching out to him to try to lure him over to the IndyCar iRacing Challenge to join fellow NASCAR drivers Jimmie Johnson and Dale Earnhardt Jr., and perhaps others as the series progresses.

Can you really sink that kind of money into a rig and not be willing to try something new, especially with nothing else to do these days? If I were him right now, I’d be trying to get involved in every virtual racing series I could.

If it’s meant to happen, it will happen. Be honest; did anybody envision Earnhardt behind the wheel of an open-wheel car in 2020? Me neither.

Which NASCAR drivers other than Jimmie Johnson and Dale Earnhardt Jr. could make their IndyCar “debuts” by competing in IndyCar iRacing Challenge events? Could any of these five drivers do so before NASCAR and IndyCar return to real-life action?
