NASCAR: Long-time Xfinity, Truck team to make Cup debut
By Asher Fair
B.J. McLeod Motorsports have been around since 2011, but they have never competed in a NASCAR Cup Series race. That is set to change this weekend.
When the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series season returns at Darlington Raceway this Sunday, May 17 for the first race since Sunday, March 8, it is set to do so with a full field of 40 drivers.
The series hasn’t seen a full field since the season-opening Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway back on Monday, February 17.
Among the 40 entries are four non-chartered entries, and all will qualify for the race due to the fact that there is no qualifying session and the fact that the entry list is not overflowing.

One of these non-chartered entries is set to be driven by B.J. McLeod. This is by no means a rare occurrence, as the 36-year-old Wauchula, Florida has competed part-time in the Cup Series since the 2015 season.
But for the first time ever, it is his team for which he is slated to drive at NASCAR’s highest level.
McLeod is set to drive the #78 Chevrolet for B.J. McLeod Motorsports in this Sunday afternoon’s 293-lap race around the four-turn, 1.366-mile (2.198-kilometer) oval in Darlington, South Carolina.
B.J. McLeod Motorsports, which are co-owned by B.J. and his wife Jessica, have been around in NASCAR since the 2011 season, but they have never competed in a Cup Series race. In total, they have competed in 326 races, including 305 Xfinity Series races and 21 Truck Series races.
The #78 car hasn’t competed in a Cup Series race since it was a Toyota for the now defunct Furniture Row Racing team back in the 2018 season finale.
Tune in to Fox at 3:30 p.m. ET this Sunday, May 17 for the NASCAR Cup Series debut of B.J. McLeod Motorsports and for the return of the 2020 season at Darlington Raceway following an unexpected 10-week stoppage in action.
