NASCAR has confirmed the inevitable, postponing this evening’s Xfinity Series race at Darlington Raceway to Thursday afternoon.

Rain and thunderstorms at Darlington Raceway have caused NASCAR to postpone this evening’s Xfinity Series race, the Toyota 200, to Thursday afternoon at 12:00 p.m. ET.

This 147-lap race around the four-turn, 1.366-mile (2.198-kilometer) egg-shaped oval in Darlington, South Carolina was originally scheduled to take place at 8:00 p.m. ET.

The threat of rain and thunderstorms led NASCAR to move that start time up by two hours to 6:00 p.m. ET, but that ended up making no difference due to the persistent storms that rendered the 10 Air Titans which were being utilized practically useless.

More from Xfinity Series

Fox Sports 1 is still set to broadcast the race live on Thursday afternoon.

According to The Weather Channel, there is an 80% chance of rain and thunderstorms during the day and a 30% chance during the night.

There have not been any Xfinity Series races held since Saturday, March 7 when the fourth race of the season was contested at Phoenix Raceway. The coronavirus pandemic brought the season to a halt just days later.

Should Thursday’s race take place as planned, it would end a 75-day hiatus from racing at NASCAR’s second highest level of competition.

There is a Cup Series race scheduled to take place at “The Lady in Black” tomorrow evening at 6:00 p.m. ET, but the forecast does not look promising for that race, either. NASCAR is scheduled to move north to Charlotte Motor Speedway this weekend, beginning with a Cup Series race on Sunday, May 24.

The Xfinity Series race at the four-turn, 1.5-mile (2.414-kilometer) oval in Concord, North Carolina is scheduled to take place on Monday, May 25.
