NASCAR: Brad Keselowski steals another win at Bristol
By Asher Fair
For the second time in the last three NASCAR Cup Series races, Brad Keselowski was victorious at Bristol Motor Speedway due to a late miscue from Chase Elliott.
Two NASCAR Cup Series races ago, it was a call to pit from the lead that cost Hendrick Motorsports’ Chase Elliott a win at Charlotte Motor Speedway, a win that ultimately went to Team Penske’s Brad Keselowski.
Today at Bristol Motor Speedway, late contact between Elliott and one of Keselowski’s teammates, Joey Logano, as Elliott attempted to retake the lead from Logano sent Keselowski’s #2 Ford to the lead and allowed him to win for the second time in the 2020 season.
Elliott had the lead on the race’s final restart with five laps remaining with Logano in second place after then race leader Denny Hamlin of Joe Gibbs Racing crashed his #11 Toyota to bring out the final caution flag.

After their incident, Logano and Elliott ended up finishing in 21st and 22nd place in their #22 Ford and #9 Chevrolet, respectively, as the final two drivers on the lead lap.
Keselowski, who started this 500-lap Food City presents the Supermarket Heroes 500 around the four-turn, 0.533-mile (0.858-kilometer) high-banked oval in Bristol, Tennessee from the pole position and made a late pit stop for new tires while the rest of the leaders stayed out, won the race by 0.471 seconds over Stewart-Haas Racing’s Clint Bowyer in a season-high second place in his #14 Ford.
Hendrick Motorsports’ Jimmie Johnson finished in a season-high third place in his #48 Chevrolet ahead of Joe Gibbs Racing’s Kyle Busch in fourth in his #18 Toyota. Joe Gibbs Racing still managed to place two cars in the top five despite Hamlin’s wreck, as Erik Jones finished tied his season-best finish with a fifth place result in his #20 Toyota.
Richard Childress Racing’s Austin Dillon and Chip Ganassi Racing’s Kurt Busch both overcame issues to finish in the top seven, with Dillon placing sixth in his #3 Chevrolet and Busch finishing in seventh in his #1 Chevrolet.
Hendrick Motorsports’ William Byron finished in a season-high eighth place in his #24 Chevrolet ahead of Leavine Family Racing’s Christopher Bell, who tied his career-best finish with a ninth place result in his #95 Toyota. Richard Petty Motorsports’ Bubba Wallace finished in 10th in his #43 Chevrolet.
The race featured 21 lead changes among seven drivers. Hamlin led more laps than anybody else in the field with 131 laps led. Keselowski won the race after leading 60 laps. Elliott won stage one and stage two. The race’s other leaders were Logano, Kyle Busch, Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney and Wood Brothers Racing’s Matt DiBenedetto.
Blaney wrecked while running in second place behind Keselowski in the stage one. He appeared to have saved his #12 Ford, but contact from the #13 Chevrolet of Germain Racing’s Ty Dillon ended his race.
The race also featured a season-high 17 caution flag periods, of which two were planned competition cautions and two were the planned caution flag periods for the ends of stage one and stage two.
