NASCAR: Joey Logano reveals what got him most upset at Bristol
By Asher Fair
Joey Logano revealed what really made him upset about his late crash at Bristol Motor Speedway with Chase Elliott, which may have cost him his third win of the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series season.
With five laps remaining in Sunday’s 500-lap Food City presents the Supermarket Heroes 500 NASCAR Cup Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway, Hendrick Motorsports’ Chase Elliott led the field to the green flag for the final restart ahead of Team Penske’s Joey Logano.
The two battled closely around the four-turn, 0.533-mile (0.858-kilometer) high-banked oval in Bristol, Tennessee after the restart.
Heading into turn three with three laps to go, Logano had the advantage and went high. Elliott went low, got loose and slid up the track, causing contact between his #9 Chevrolet and Logano’s #22 Ford that ended their chances to win.
Team Penske’s Brad Keselowski stormed past the pair with the race lead, and 19 others passed them over the race’s final two-plus laps as well. Roger Penske’s organization still found victory lane, but with Keselowski, not Logano.

Logano, who had intentionally bumped Elliott from behind during the final caution flag period thinking that Elliott had gotten into him when then race leader Denny Hamlin crashed, expressed his frustration with Elliott afterward, as the two discussed the incident that left them mired outside of the top 20 on pit road.
After the race, Logano posted a video of himself on Instagram, clearly still disappointed at watching what could have been his third win of the season slip away in the final mile or so of the 266-mile race.
But his main issue wasn’t with Elliott’s aggressive move gone wrong. It was with his response to the incident — or lack thereof.
Logano, who had overcome a speeding penalty to put himself in position to win, admitted that he understood it was the end of the race and everyone was going to race hard.
He also admitted that he has done it before. But it was Elliott drawing attention to the fact that he has done it before, as opposed to apologizing for doing it this time around, that really got Logano upset.
Logano had called Elliott “childish” for this reaction immediately after the race as well, although Elliott did shoulder the blame for the accident. Logano also said he had to “force” an apology.
The NASCAR Cup Series is set to return to action with the 10th race of the season, the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500, at Atlanta Motor Speedway this Sunday, June 7 at 3:00 p.m. ET. Fox is set to broadcast this race live.
