NASCAR: Kevin Harvick dominates at Atlanta for 2nd win of 2020
By Asher Fair
Kevin Harvick dominated the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway for his second victory of the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series season.
Stewart-Haas Racing’s Kevin Harvick secured his second victory since NASCAR returned to action three weeks ago at Darlington Raceway and his second win of the 2020 Cup Series season at Atlanta Motor Speedway by dominating Sunday afternoon’s Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500.
Harvick started today’s 325-lap race around the four-turn, 1.54-mile (2.478-kilometer) oval in Hampton, Georgia in ninth place in his #4 Ford, and he quickly drove to the front en route to his third career victory at the track and his second in the last three years.
Harvick won the race by 3.527 seconds over Joe Gibbs Racing’s Kyle Busch, who tied his season-high finish of second place in his #18 Toyota. Joe Gibbs Racing’s Martin Truex Jr. recorded his first top five finish of the year with a third place run in his #19 Toyota.

Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney and Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin rounded out the top five by finishing in fourth and fifth place in their #12 Ford and #11 Toyota, respectively.
Chip Ganassi Racing’s Kurt Busch, who was given a drive-through penalty and fell one lap off the lead lap early after his #1 Chevrolet failed pre-race inspection three times and he was sent to the rear of the field, rallied to finish in sixth place as the highest finishing Chevrolet driver.
Hendrick Motorsports teammates Jimmie Johnson and Chase Elliott finished in seventh and eighth place in their #48 Chevrolet and #9 Chevrolet, respectively. Team Penske teammates Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano rounded out the top 10 by finishing in ninth and 10th in their #2 Ford and #22 Ford, respectively.
This race featured 21 lead changes among nine drivers, although many lead changes came as a result of pit strategy. Harvick led more laps than anybody else in the field with 151 laps led.
The race’s other leaders were Kyle Busch, Truex, Blaney, Kurt Busch, Elliott, Keselowski, Logano and Stewart-Haas Racing’s Clint Bowyer. Truex won stage one and stage two after Elliott started from the pole position.
The 500-mile race featured only five caution flag periods, including only two for incidents. The other three included one competition caution and two stage-ending caution flag periods.
Both of the incidents which caused caution flag periods involved a Front Row Motorsports driver spinning his Ford off of turn four, with the first taking place due to an incident involving rookie John Hunter Nemechek and the second taking place due to an incident involving Michael McDowell. Of the 40 drivers who competed in the race, 38 finished it and 10 finished on the lead lap.
