Top 5 superspeedway drivers: No. 5 – Ryan Blaney

Ever since Ryan Blaney joined Team Penske behind the wheel of the #12 Ford back in 2018, he has excelled at the superspeedway tracks. It may be due to being teammates with two of the best, Joey Logano and Brad Keselowski.

Since 2018, Blaney has led the second highest amount of laps at superspeedways with 181. That is only two laps behind Logano, who has led 183. The #12 Ford has seen the front a lot during the past nine superspeedway races.

Blaney has really shined the last two superspeedway races. He finally got his first superspeedway win in the 1000Bulbs.com 500 at Talladega Superspeedway last year. The last lap of that race started with Blaney in the lead, but Ryan Newman got a push from Denny Hamlin and got by him. Then Blaney got back by Newman in the tri-oval to beat him by 0.007 seconds.

Then in the Daytona 500 earlier this year, Blaney was running in second place off of the final turn on the final lap before making contact with Newman, who was in the lead. That contact allowed Hamlin charge up the outside of Blaney and take the win away from him.

In the past nine superspeedway races, Blaney’s average finish is 19.89 with a win, two top five finishes and three top 10 finishes. He has emerged as a perennial threat at the superspeedways, and do not be surprised if he wins more and more races there.
