Christopher Bell 2021 landing spots: Stewart-Haas Racing

Stewart-Haas Racing have altered their driver lineup after each of the last four seasons, and they are in a position where they could easily do so for a fifth consecutive year after the 2020 season.

They signed 2014 champion Kevin Harvick to a contract extension that runs through the 2023 season before the 2020 season began, and rookie Cole Custer is believed to be locked into his contract for several seasons, especially after winning at Kentucky Speedway.

But for the second consecutive season, both Clint Bowyer and Aric Almirola are in contract years, and either driver could be given the boot in favor of Christopher Bell. Neither driver has been to victory lane since the 2018 season.

Given Bell’s dirt racing background and that of Steawrt-Haas Racing co-owner Tony Stewart, a move to the four-car Ford operation would make sense. In fact, it was even speculated that the team could make a move to lure him away from Joe Gibbs Racing and Toyota after last season, since Joe Gibbs Racing had no room at their flagship team for him in 2020.

Notably, Stewart has hinted that he is interested in signing Kyle Larson, who also has an illustrious dirt racing background and lost his ride with Chip Ganassi Racing earlier this year for using a racial slur.

Stewart has shown interest in Larson for several years and may finally get the chance to sign him, but if that doesn’t pan out, the three-time Chili Bowl winner would be a great fallback option. In fact, he could sign both. But if not, where else could Bell end up?
