Kevin Harvick continued his NASCAR Cup Series doubleheader dominance with a victory in Sunday’s Drydene 311 at Dover International Speedway.

One day after Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin tied him atop the wins list in the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series season, Stewart-Haas Racing’s Kevin Harvick reclaimed the top spot with a win in the second Drydene 311 at Dover International Speedway.

Harvick started this 311-lap race around the four-turn, 1.0-mile (1.609-kilometer) high-banked Monster Mile oval in Dover, Delaware in 17th place behind the wheel of his #4 Ford, and he held off Joe Gibbs Racing’s Martin Truex Jr. in second behind the wheel of his #19 Toyota by 3.525 seconds to secure the victory.

Truex finished in second place in both races of the doubleheader following five consecutive third place results coming into the weekend, giving him seven straight top three results without a victory.

Hendrick Motorsports’ Jimmie Johnson overcame a pit road speeding penalty to tie his season-best result with a third place finish behind the wheel of the #48 Chevrolet as he attempts to qualify for the playoffs in his final season as a full-time driver.

He finished ahead of teammate William Byron, who is also battling for one of the remaining playoff spots, in fourth place behind the wheel of his #24 Chevrolet. Harvick and Hamlin, who finished in a disappointing 19th behind the wheel of his #11 Toyota following a late loose wheel, remain the only two drivers to win any doubleheader races season.

They also split the doubleheader weekend at Pocono Raceway and Harvick swept the doubleheader weekend at Michigan International Speedway. Four of Harvick’s series-high seven wins have come during doubleheader weekends.

This race featured 15 lead changes among six drivers. Harvick led a race-high 223 laps and won both the first stage and the second stage en route to taking the win. He also secured the regular season championship with his win.
