Ross Chastain 2021 landing spots: Richard Petty Motorsports

If Chip Ganassi Racing don’t sign Ross Chastain for the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season like many once believed they would, that will likely mean a few things.

First of all, they will probably still want him in the future and won’t want him to escape to a rival team, given that Chip Ganassi made that clear even when they went with Matt Kenseth over him to replace Kyle Larson.

Secondly, it could be Bubba Wallace, who is currently in his third season driving the #43 Chevrolet for Richard Petty Motorsports, who replaces Kenseth behind the wheel of the #42 Chevrolet, give recent reports about his discussions with the team.

Finally, that would give Ganassi the opportunity to loan Chastain to Richard Petty Motorsports as Wallace’s replacement behind the wheel of the #43 Chevrolet so that he could continue to develop before ending up with Ganassi’s organization in a top-tier ride.

Chastain’s funding from Nutrien Ag Solutions would likely be an attractive addition for Richard Petty Motorsports, given their position as one of the lesser financially sound organizations, especially with Wallace set to leave and reportedly take multiple sponsors with him.

However, if Chastain opts not to wait around for at least another year to drive for Chip Ganassi Racing, there could be another solid Cup Series opportunity out there waiting for him.
