NASCAR to lose a second team after 2020
By Asher Fair
Germain Racing will officially join Leavine Family Racing as an ex-NASCAR team following the conclusion of the 2020 Cup Series season.
Earlier this year, Leavine Family Racing announced that they would be sold following the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series season, a move that many saw coming as a result of the financial implications caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Bob Leavine’s team, which had competed at NASCAR’s highest level since 2011, sold the charter that had been used to run the #95 Toyota to Spire Motorsports, which are set to run a two-car team for the first time in 2021 after running one car in 2019 and 2020.
Now another team is set to join Leavine Family Racing as an ex-team in 2021.

Germain Racing, which opened all the way back in 2004 and made their Cup Series debut back in 2009, will not be back in the sport following the 2020 season finale at Phoenix Raceway on Sunday, November 8.
This news had been anticipated after it was confirmed that longtime sponsor GEICO would not be back on the #13 Chevrolet, which is currently driven by Ty Dillon, next year. It ultimately turned into the negative aspect of the big Silly Season announcement that came Monday night involving Michael Jordan, Denny Hamlin and Bubba Wallace.
Jordan is set to begin his tenure as a team owner next year with Hamlin as a partner, and Wallace is set to be the new one-car team’s driver. The charter for this team was purchased from Bob Germain’s organization and had been used to field the #13 Chevrolet.
Germain Racing confirmed the sale of their charter on Twitter.
Dillon does not have a confirmed ride for the 2021 season, but there are several rides with seats still open for next year, including the #32 Go Fas Racing Ford, the #37 JTG Daugherty Racing Chevrolet, the #43 Richard Petty Motorsports Chevrolet and the #96 Gaunt Brothers Racing Toyota.
