NASCAR: Here are the cars without confirmed drivers for 2021
By Asher Fair
There are still quite a few seats without confirmed drivers for the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season, despite many recent confirmations.
Quite a few drivers have been confirmed for the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season and beyond since the 2020 season began back in mid-February, and a number of them have been confirmed since it resumed following the 10-week hiatus caused by the coronavirus pandemic back in mid-May.
Ryan Blaney extended his contract with Team Penske before Brad Keselowski did the same, and Alex Bowman extended his deal with Hendrick Motorsports before William Byron did the same.
Joe Gibbs Racing announced that they will be taking Christopher Bell from the Joe Gibbs Racing-affiliated Leavine Family Racing to replace Erik Jones.

Stewart-Haas Racing, which announced an extension for Kevin Harvick just before the season began, recently extended the contract of Aric Almirola. Tyler Reddick confirmed that he is set to return to Richard Childress Racing as well.
Bubba Wallace has been announced as the driver for the new team started by Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin, and Daniel Suarez has been announced as the driver for the new team started by Justin Marks, Trackhouse Racing Team.
But to say that there are quite a few rides still available for the 2021 season would be quite an understatement. There are several notable pending free agents still out there, and there are a number of rides, including a few among the sport’s top teams, where each of them could end up — or even where drivers from outside the current field could end up.
Here’s a look at the list of rides without confirmed drivers for next year.
NOTE: Only the entries with full-time drivers are included in this list.
#13 Germain Racing Chevrolet: currently driven by Ty Dillon
#14 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford: currently driven by Clint Bowyer
#15 Premium Motorsports Chevrolet: currently driven by Brennan Poole
#21 Wood Brothers Racing Ford: currently driven by Matt DiBenedetto
#32 Go Fas Racing Ford: currently driven by Corey LaJoie
#34 Front Row Motorsports Ford: currently driver by Michael McDowell
#37 JTG Daugherty Racing Chevrolet: currently driven by Ryan Preece
#38 Front Row Motorsports Ford: currently driven by John Hunter Nemechek
#43 Richard Petty Motorsports Chevrolet: currently driven by Bubba Wallace
#66 MBM Motorsports Toyota: currently driven by Timmy Hill
#88 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet: currently driven by Alex Bowman
#96 Gaunt Brothers Racing Toyota: currently driven by Daniel Suarez
Among these 12 rides, there are five drivers who have confirmed that they won’t be back in the same cars next year, with those five drivers being Dillon, whose Germain Racing team sold their charter to the new team owned by Jordan and Hamlin, as well as LaJoie, Wallace, Bowman and Suarez.
Wallace is set to move to that Jordan/Hamlin team while Bowman is set to move to the #48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet that is currently driven by seven-time champion Jimmie Johnson, who is set to retire after the 2020 season. Hendrick Motorsports haven’t yet officially announced a new driver.
Also, make note of the fact that the #15 Premium Motorsports Chevrolet is slated to become the #15 Rick Ware Racing Chevrolet next year.
Other full-time rides without confirmed drivers for next year are the three other Rick Ware Racing cars (#27, #51 and #53) and the two Spire Motorsports cars (#77 Chevrolet and #TBD). The currently non-numbered Spire Motorsports entry was added due to the team’s purchase of Leavine Family Racing and the charter which was used to run the #95 Toyota.
Trackhouse Racing Team purchased a charter from Spire Motorsports, which had previously landed a third charter from an undisclosed team.
As the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series playoffs progress, look for some of these vacant seats to be filled for the 2021 season.
