Former Chip Ganassi Racing NASCAR Cup Series driver Kyle Larson has returned to Twitter after deactivating his account for several months.

After Kyle Larson was suspended by Chip Ganassi Racing and NASCAR back in April over his use of a racial slur during a virtual event on iRacing, he took to Twitter to issue an apology in a video.

Shortly thereafter, multiple sponsors cut ties with him, effectively forcing Chip Ganassi Racing to fire him after more than six years behind the wheel of the #42 Chevrolet.

That video ended up being the last time he addressed social media before deactivating both his Twitter and Instagram accounts.

Now, however, the 28-year-old Elk Grove, California native is back on Twitter.

He returned to the platform by sharing his interview with James Brown on CBS This Morning regarding the mistake he made and how he has gone about being a better person as a result of it.

Larson’s Twitter re-activation comes amid rumors that he will be back in the Cup Series next year. He recently applied for reinstatement from NASCAR, and his request was approved as expected.

While Chip Ganassi Racing, which replaced him with Matt Kenseth for the final 32 races of the 2020 season, have announced that Ross Chastain is set to drive the #42 Chevrolet next year, there is mounting speculation that Larson will end up competing for Hendrick Motorsports.

Seven-time champion Jimmie Johnson is set to retire at the end of the year, and while Johnson is set to be replaced by Alex Bowman behind the wheel of the #48 Chevrolet, Bowman is already a Hendrick Motorsports driver, so it has yet to be announced who will truly replace Johnson in the team’s four-car driver lineup. Bowman currently drives the #88 Chevrolet, which is expected to be renumbered to #5.
