Formula 1 rookie Nikita Mazepin has been fined for failing to stop his car at a red light, adding yet another blemish to his already checkered record.

It’s no secret that Haas Formula 1 rookie Nikita Mazepin doesn’t exactly have a clean record when it comes to his behavior both on and off the track, and that record has been in the spotlight this winter as he prepares to make his debut next month.

Now the son of billionaire Uralchem Integrated Chemicals Company majority shareholder and chair Dmitry Mazepin has been fined and penalized for his involvement in yet another incident.

In all fairness to him, it stems from an issue that took place in late June, so it’s not something that just happened.

His fine is also one that he will ultimately have absolutely no issue paying, but it will go down as yet another mark against him.

Mazepin has been ordered to pay a total of £274 in fines, court costs and a victim surcharge by Oxford and Southern Oxfordshire Magistrates’ Court after running a red light.

The 21-year-old Russian reportedly went right through a red traffic light by a court in Oxfordshire on Wednesday, June 24, and he did so a whole 1.7 seconds after it went red. Three penalty points on his road car driving license were also issued to him following the incident. He admitted the charge in a hearing on Thursday, January 14.

Coming off of a two-win second season in Formula 2 that led to a fifth place finish in the driver standings, Mazepin is set to make his Formula 1 debut at Bahrain International Circuit on Sunday, March 28 in the 2021 season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix alongside fellow rookie Mick Schumacher at the sport’s lone American team.
