NASCAR: Daytona 500 entry list set with 44 cars?
By Asher Fair
The entry list for the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season-opening Daytona 500 is all but solidified following the announcement that NY Racing Team won’t compete.
NY Racing Team, which haven’t competed in the Cup Series since 2018 or the Daytona 500 since 2015, will not be fielding a car in an attempt to qualify for the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season-opening Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway despite their initial plans to run the full 36-race schedule.
There was still hope that they would be competing, but this was a move that had been speculated in recent days as time continued to pass with no driver or sponsor confirmation.
While the entry list for this 200-lap race around the four-turn, 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) high-banked oval in Daytona Beach, Florida has not yet been officially revealed, this news effectively means that it has been solidified.
There are currently 44 cars on the entry list for the 63rd annual Daytona 500.

This total includes the 36 chartered entries and the eight non-chartered entries that are slated to battle for the final remaining four spots in the 40-car field via both single-car qualifying (Wednesday, February 10 at 7:00 p.m. ET on Fox) and the Bluegreen Vacations Duels (Thursday, February 11 at 7:00 p.m. ET on Fox).
All three of the possible additions to the entry list from last week have been ruled out. Ironically, had the #44 Chevrolet been added to the 44-car entry list, it technically would have had a 44.44% chance to qualify for the race as one of the final four cars.
Let’s take a look at the 44 confirmed entries that will likely make up the entry list when it is revealed.
NOTE: “Full-time” / “Part-time” indicates the status of the driver, not the car.
