NASCAR: Kyle Busch set for Xfinity Series return
By Asher Fair
Kyle Busch is set to return to the NASCAR Xfinity Series this Saturday at Circuit of the Americas for the first of his five starts in 2021.
Full-time NASCAR Cup Series drivers who have five or more seasons of full-time experience in the Cup Series are only allowed to compete in a maximum of five Xfinity Series races per year. That number had been seven before last season.
One driver who always makes sure to take advantage of allotment, no matter how much it has shrunk, is two-time Cup Series champion Kyle Busch.
Busch, who competes for Joe Gibbs Racing in the Cup Series and in his select Xfinity Series starts, is the winningest driver in Xfinity Series history with 97 career victories, and he has said many times that he will retire from the series once he reaches 100, a total which he will undoubtedly have a chance to reach in the 2021 season.
He is set to continue that pursuit this Saturday, May 22 at Circuit of the Americas in the Pit Boss 250.

This race is the first of his five scheduled starts of the season.
The 36-year-old Las Vegas, Nevada native is also set to compete in the races at Texas Motor Speedway on Saturday, June 12, Nashville Superspeedway on Saturday, June 19, Road America on Saturday, July 3 and Atlanta Motor Speedway on Saturday, July 10. He is coming off of a season that saw him take the checkered flag twice, once at Charlotte Motor Speedway and once at Texas Motor Speedway.
But after his #54 Toyota failed post-race inspection at the latter, he was disqualified, and eventual series champion Austin Cindric of Team Penske was crowned the victor. Busch had beaten Cindric to win at Charlotte Motor Speedway on the final lap.
That, of course, led Busch to joke, as he has done many times before, about just how much NASCAR and the fans love when he drops down to compete in the two lower national series, as he also competes in five races per season in the Truck Series for Kyle Busch Motorsports as well.
His most recent Xfinity Series start took place on Friday, September 11, 2020 at Richmond Raceway. He finished that race in third place for his fourth top three finish in five starts throughout the season — or five if you wish to include the initial win at Texas Motor Speedway.
The Pit Boss 250 is set to be broadcast live from Circuit of the Americas on Fox Sports 1 beginning at 4:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, May 22.
