NASCAR: Hendrick Motorsports in position to tie an all-time record
By Asher Fair
Now with 267 NASCAR Cup Series victories, Hendrick Motorsports are in a position to tie the all-time record held by Petty Enterprises.
Entering the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season, Hendrick Motorsports sat just five victories shy of the all-time wins record, which was and still is held by Petty Enterprises.
Petty Enterprises won 268 races during their time competing in the Cup Series, and following a seven-win 2020 season that saw them win the championship with Chase Elliott, Hendrick Motorsports entered the 2021 season with 263 victories.
Following last Sunday’s Drydene 400 at Dover International Speedway, they are just one victory shy of the record.
Alex Bowman led a top four Hendrick Motorsports sweep en route to his second win of the season and fourth career victory.

Kyle Larson, who won earlier this season at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, finished in second place ahead of Elliott in third. William Byron, who has not finished lower than ninth in nearly three months and won earlier this season at Homestead-Miami Speedway, finished in fourth.
As a result, any one of the team’s four drivers could potentially deliver Rick Hendrick’s team their 268th Cup Series victory to tie the all-time record. Petty Enterprises fielded 2,817 entries and collected 268 wins, 888 top five finishes and 1,258 top 10 finishes during their time in the Cup Series. Hendrick’s team have fielded 4,325 entries and collected 267 wins, 1,120 top five finishes and 1,931 top 10 finishes.
That record could be tied as early as this afternoon at Circuit of the Americas in the EchoPark Texas Grand Prix, and it could be broken as early as next Sunday at Charlotte Motor Speedway in the Coca-Cola 600.
NASCAR has never raced at Circuit of the Americas before, though Elliott has won four of the last five road course races. He also won a race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway oval last season and probably would have won both if not for a late caution caused by a Byron spin in the Coca-Cola 600.
