Ryan Blaney is excited to debut a brand new BODYARMOR paint scheme in this Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

A personal deal with NASCAR Cup Series driver Ryan Blaney that came to fruition several years ago turned into a deal that landed BODYARMOR a spot as the primary sponsor of the #12 Team Penske Ford for several races, and that partnership will again be on full display this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Blaney is set to debut his newest paint scheme for BODYARMOR EDGE in the Coca-Cola 600 at the four-turn, 1.5-mile (2.414-kilometer) oval in Concord, North Carolina this Sunday, May 30. EDGE, a premium sports drink with natural caffeine, is BODYARMOR’s newest product innovation.

Before this paint scheme was unveiled, we had the chance to speak with Blaney about it, plus a few other things relating to his relationship with BODYARMOR.

More from NASCAR Cup Series

“They’ve sent me a ton [of BODYARMOR EDGE] to my house; I really enjoy them,” Blaney told Beyond the Flag. “I think it’s a great new twist on not only the hydration that you need but the natural caffeine that’s in it. I think it gives you a little bit extra edge, kind of going through your day.

“I’m looking forward to debuting that car in Charlotte at the 600. The Power Punch is probably my favorite one that I’ve had. There are a lot of great ones out there. It’s great to be with a company like BODYARMOR who always wants to push forward and come out with new products that people enjoy. I know I enjoy them, so it’s nice to finally get them on the race car.”

BODYARMOR has produced quite a few unique paint schemes for Blaney over the years. While the Kobe Bryant tribute scheme will probably forever be his favorite, he thinks this Sunday’s scheme is right up there.

“I think it’s great,” he said. “I got a chance to see it a few weeks ago, and I was really excited to see a rendering of it, and I’m even more excited to see it in person. I think it’s going to really pop, especially under the lights at Charlotte when the sun goes down there in the second half of the race.

“We’ve had some great paint schemes, from the original red and white one that we run to this EDGE one. The Kobe Bryant car that we were able to run in Fontana last year was probably my favorite because of what it meant to honor Kobe and Gianna and the families involved in that tragedy. It’s been great to have all these very special schemes with BODYARMOR that all mean something, and I’m looking forward to doing it for years to come.”

He also spoke about his relationship with BODYARMOR and how they have grown since he formed a partnership with them several years ago before expanding that deal to become a part-time primary sponsor of his Cup car.

“I’ve been with BODYARMOR since 2017,” he stated. “Just to be a part of that company — I knew when I stepped into their office up in New York years ago, they were very hungry to grow and become the best sports drink out there, and they are on their way.

“It’s been amazing to see what all they’ve done in such a short time. And not only seeing their stuff grow in sports, things like that, but just them growing to be a part of our team. It was just a personal deal with me for a little bit and now they have them on the car a handful of races per year.”

He is looking forward to continuing this relationship for years to come.

“That just shows that they want to keep pushing forward and getting their stuff out there, and it’s just been great to be with a company that always is hungry and always wants to win, really, because that’s my mindset! It’s cool to be with a company that has the same mindset as you. I couldn’t be happier with the relationship with BODYARMOR, and I’m looking forward to hopefully having them on here for many, many years.”

Blaney won the race at Atlanta Motor Speedway in March. It was his fifth career win, but it was his first with BODYARMOR as a primary sponsor.

“We did it in the BODYARMOR car, which was very cool, to get them in victory lane as a primary,” he said. “Been wanting to do that for a few years now, and glad to make it happen.”
