IndyCar champion and Indy 500 winner Will Power said that he would volunteer to fight a NASCAR driver and he would select Kyle Busch.

Following the opening practice session for this weekend’s IndyCar doubleheader at Belle Isle Street Circuit, the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix, three drivers took part in quite an interesting news conference.

Those three drivers were Team Penske’s Will Power, Arrow McLaren SP’s Pato O’Ward, and Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi.

They all finished the session in the top five on the speed chart.

More from NASCAR Cup Series

Power, despite topping the speed chart, expressed his frustration about being held up by one particular driver around the 14-turn, 2.35-mile (3.782-kilometer) temporary street circuit on the streets of Belle Isle in Detroit, Michigan during the session. He did not name that driver.

He did say that he would “get him”, but that he doesn’t “get people on the track”; he said that he would “get him off the track”. The discussion then turned to the brand new SRX (Superstar Racing Experience), which is scheduled to get underway this evening at Stafford Speedway.

Asked what he was hoping to see from this new series, Rossi continued the “off the track” theme of the news conference and said that he wanted to see fights.

Power backed him up.

"“Fights. All the stuff people watch racing for, nothing to do with the technicality. All the training you do, take someone out, crash and fight, for crying out loud. I just think it would be awesome if we had fights afterwards, no? … I would be down to fight after races. I think it would be awesome. I’ve been watching really with interest these celebrities, YouTube celebrities, fighting people. Man, I got to get in on this.”"

That discussion took an even more interesting turn, with Power suggesting that an IndyCar driver should fight a NASCAR driver for entertainment purposes. He said that he would “put his hand up” to be the IndyCar driver, and asked by Rossi which NASCAR driver he would want to fight, here is what he had to say.

"“I don’t know. One of them. Kyle Busch maybe. I don’t know. Probably wouldn’t go for Harvick because I think he can fight pretty well."

Responding to Power’s suggestion of fighting Kyle Busch, Rossi simply told him “wrong choice”.
